In Memory

Bruce MacDougall

Bruce Ian MacDougall (aka "Little Oscar") was born December 8th, 1956, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to parents Dougall MacDougall and Gladys MacDougall, and passed away on January 2nd, 2018 in his home. Bruce struggled with long-term addiction issues, and the cause of death was a direct result of that struggle.

Bruce grew up in Indianapolis, attending Lawrence Central High School and participating in marching band. He was an exceptionally talented drummer, and was accepted into the IU School of Music, but opted to move to New York City after concluding that college life was not for him. He got married, had a kid, and continued drumming for a few different bands, but his demons caught up to him and he moved back to Indianapolis to be closer to his family. Bruce eventually got sober, and was sober for eight years. During this time, he finished up his Bachelor's and Master's degrees at Indiana University, and became a very passionate social worker and addictions counselor, obtaining an impressive success rate among teens and adolescents facing drug addictions.

An avid Green Bay Packers fan, Bruce became a stockholder in 2013, and attended many games, braving the cold at Lambeau Field. His other passions included songwriting, recording, The Beatles, and pizza (going so far as to make day trips across the pond to Hoboken, New Jersey, home of Benny Tudino's, the best pizza in the world). He obtained the rank of Eagle Scout in God and Country, a ranking one above that of Eagle Scout. Bruce will be remembered as a goofy dad, a talented drummer and musician, a dedicated friend, and a loving brother.

His father, Dougall MacDougall, and his mother, Gladys MacDougall, precede him in death. Survivors consist of a sister, Jan MacDougall; a daughter, Sarah MacDougall; a black cat, Pinky; and a black dog, Whitey.

Services will be held at Lawrence United Methodist Church, 5200 N. Shadeland Ave., 46226, on Saturday, January 13th, with a visitation beginning at 3pm and service to start at 4pm.
