James P. Wood

January 13, 1957 — February 19, 2024

Westfield, Indiana

James P. Wood, 67, of Westfield, Indiana, passed away February 19, 2024, surrounded by his family after a hard fought, 26 month battle with Glioblastoma.  Jim was born January 13, 1957, in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of the late James C. and Elizabeth Ann (Fletcher) Wood.  He married Karen M. Crouch on April 12, 1980.

Jim was a 1979 graduate of Purdue University with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering.  Following graduation he began his rewarding 40 year career with Eli Lilly where he worked in the Containment Engineering Technology Group.  Over the course of his career he was responsible for the design and creation of several patents, a trade secret, and was an advisor to a number of international organizations.  During his career Jim was a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, Indiana Society of Professional Engineers, International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineering, and ASHRAE.  Jim was a man of strong faith who loved God and was an active member of Cornerstone Bible Church in Westfield. He was an avid reader who successfully authored, co-authored, and edited numerous technical books and articles, as well as illustrated fictional books. Jim also enjoyed composing music, and playing guitar and piano.  Above all else he was a devoted husband, father, and Papoo to his seven grandchildren. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Karen M. Wood; son, James C. Wood; daughter, Abigail M. (Joshua) Strader; seven grandchildren, Cayleigh, Gabriel, Logan, Alistair, Hunter, Asher, and Shepherd; mom, Jane Ehmann Wood; sister, Dawn Wood (Dr. Robert III) Jones; brother, Dr. Mark (Marianne) Murphy; and sister, Linda (Greg) Gilmore.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Flanner Buchanan – Hamilton Memorial Park (Prairie Waters), 4180 Westfield Road, Westfield, Indiana 46062.  Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
