RE: What grade did you start school in Interlachen? Posted Wednesday, March 10, 2010 06:48 PM I started in 7th grade, it was located on the second floor in a quad setup. Mr. Rich(history I think), Mrs. Sheppard(language?), Mr. Thompson(math) and Mrs. ?(?). I got in trouble with John Warner and Tony Pierce for sticking our heads out the window(construction smells) and had to write a paper on Seismology(earth quakes). Does anyone remember 8th grade when we had to go 12-6pm ? I was mad my brother got off at noon everyday before us! |

RE: What grade did you start school in Interlachen? Posted Wednesday, March 10, 2010 06:56 PM Anna, Jill's sister Kim lives down the street from my parents in Interlachen. I gave my Dad the reunion info to give to Jill. Hopefully she'll come to the reunion.

RE: What grade did you start school in Interlachen? Posted Wednesday, March 10, 2010 10:02 PM Steve, I had forgotten until you mentioned it that we went to school in 8th grade until 6 at night. I remember feeling so out of place for going to school at the strangest time. We must have been the class for experiments. We were in portables in 6th grade, upstairs separated from the rest of the school in 7th grade and afternoon school in 8th grade. Such fun memories though!!!

RE: What grade did you start school in Interlachen? Posted Saturday, March 13, 2010 06:24 PM Yeah I remember in 6th and 7th grade being terrorized by the senior boys that would stand by the door at our end of the school and say some pretty crude things and grab inappropriate areas of their bodies...LOL |

RE: What grade did you start school in Interlachen? Posted Saturday, March 13, 2010 09:34 PM The Melrose crew blasted onto the scene in 7th grade. As far as I was concerned we were in High School. First period was Science with Coach Richardson. From time to time older boys would interrupt our class making obnoxious comments and sometimes holding bottles. Does anyone know what happened to Renee Matee or Janet Sylvestor? The rest of our classes were upstairs. The 2nd period was Literature with Ms. Shepard. We gave her hell. Sometimes we would stand up in the middle of class, parade around and sing. I feel sorry for her now. Then it was onto History with Mr. Rich. I remember him as being likable. He would join in with us on our 'philosophical and scientific' debates. The most memorable experience was when Mike Shaver was teaching us the laws of electricity. He was explaining to us that nothing would happen if he stuck a conductor into only one side of an outlet. He demonstrated by sticking his metal watch buckle into one of the holes of an outlet. Sparks flew everywhere, his buckle was welded to the outlet and he was scared senseless! We were falling out of our seats laughing! Thinking back his demonstration should have worked, nothing should have happened. Maybe IHS wiring was not up to code, surely it was? Onto English with Mrs. Jones, sometimes we would have upper classmen in our class. One was Ben Cox, he was a junior. John Warner and he used to get into arguments. John would ask him embarrassing questions like, "If you're a junior why are you taking 7th grade English?" Mathematics was taught by Mr. Thompson. As I recall, he was a strange man with a very long fingernail on his pinky. He also liked to say, "At the risk of eating crow..." Steve Tompkins, thanks for helping me with negative integers. Finally sixth period was either PE with Coach Stevens or Music with Mr. Preston. PE consisted of Coach throwing us a football or basketball depending on the season. We would then proceede to play skins versus shirts or sometimes black versus white. What an era. Mr. Preston was a demanding guy, as I remember. I learned to play the recorder very poorly. Mostly I would listen to Carol Horton express her views on the state of the world. Thanks Carol. |

RE: What grade did you start school in Interlachen? Posted Saturday, March 13, 2010 11:48 PM I remember Richardson, he had those stupid lights on the wall behind him which supposedly reflected his mood(red, yellow, green). After about 2 weeks they didn't even work. |

RE: What grade did you start school in Interlachen? Posted Sunday, March 14, 2010 05:49 PM Oh My God Tony!! How can you remember this stuff in such detail!? And to think you listened to me about the ways of the world really, really scares me! I can't wait to see you and perhaps have you share those memories! My Dad was a Sociologist, so maybe I am a chip off the old block. I cannot image what I thought that far back. These days, I am opinionated with no good reason!!

RE: What grade did you start school in Interlachen? Posted Thursday, March 18, 2010 11:57 AM I started in 4th grade. We moved from Bardin to Hollister then to Mannville. I went to Silver Lake Elementary from 1st to the middle of 4th. I was in the 1979 class, then I went to Hollister Christian Academy for 10th and 11th grade then went back to IHS and had to do 11th grade over again because HCA's credit requirements were different than IHS and I was short 2 credits. Mrs. Nora Michaels would not let me do night school or anything to make it up. So that is how I wound up in the class of 1980. It turned out good anyway because I would never have gotten to know any of you if I had graduated earlier. Susan Clay |

RE: What grade did you start school in Interlachen? Posted Saturday, March 20, 2010 08:21 PM Tony, do you remember when someone turned out the lights in Mrs. Shepherd's class and it was totally dark. I think someone ended up shoving her into the closet. I want to say Jarvis had something to do with this, but I am not sure. I can remember ducking under the desk because I could hear text books flying. Mrs. Shepherd was too nice so people just ran right over her. |

RE: What grade did you start school in Interlachen? Posted Saturday, March 20, 2010 09:14 PM Poor Mrs. Sheperd, I hope she is doing well now. We owe her an apology. I do remember the "Black Out" incident. I am not sure who the instigator was, but Jarvis would be a likely suspect. I think Jarvis is living in Jacksonville now. I am going to attempt to contact him. Maybe he will 'fess up'. I spoke with Vicki Shirley (Smith) the other day. She is planning to come to the reunion and she may be able to find some of our other sidekicks. My sister spoke with Cornelius's dad, he said Cornelius is in South Korea. Do you have any idea how to get in touch with Julie or Valerie? One classmate at a time, it is slow, however, we are on our way to a good turn out! Maybe we should start a "Missing Classmate Location/Contact" thread? |

RE: What grade did you start school in Interlachen? Posted Sunday, March 21, 2010 03:01 AM I saw Vicki on Facebook, there seems to be a few on there...are you guys keeping a list of those found but not attending? Might be a good idea if it was posted somewhere in case some of us not on the "searching committee" might spot someone. Just a thought. |

RE: What grade did you start school in Interlachen? Posted Sunday, March 21, 2010 05:38 PM I started a new topic titled "IHS Classmate Search Posse". Among other things, I have listed some information about missing classmates. Let's track down them there peeps! |
