I met Nancy as soon as I entered Miss Mary Graham’s 1st grade class Sept., 1957, at John Haley Elementary in Irving.  She had one of her top front teeth hanging by a thread.  Whenever she talked the tooth jjiggled and we giggled.  We spent a lot of time the first few days standing in the hall!  We were best friends.  Her mom, Natalie, was our Flying Bluebirds leader.  Her older sisters would help with Bluebirds whenever they were needed.  Nancy moved to San Diego about 5th grade, but the family moved back during junior high.  Nancy went to Crockett while I was at Bowie.  We both attended MacArthur all 4 years and graduated together but our friendship was never as close again as it was in elementary school.  Nancy always was cheerful, sweet, and smart. Nancy passed away 11-29-2003...too young to go!  She is buried in Tyler Memorial Park, Tyler, TX, alongside her Mom and Dad, and her brother David who graduated MacArthur in 1968.  Sadly David, Natalie their Mom, and Nancy all died within a few months of each other..all in 2003.  Wonderful family!  Lydia Duncan Berkau
