Linda was one that I was blessed to have shared deep conversation with and we laughed and built-ed a strong bond between one another. She will be missed dearly. I was very sorry to have read of her passing. JuaneseGwendolyn Elouise [Gwen] Butler
She was the heir to Shady Oaks, a monumental tavern owned and operated by adopted father, Horace Young. Shady Oaks was a lucrative business onside the old Highway 13 stretch in 1940s to 1970s Mandarin. It was primarily patronized by negros of the Loretto, Greenland, downtown, Bayard, Southside, as well as Mandarin communities.
Linda spent many happy days basking in the assurance of 'parents'' love and devotion.
Many children might have envied Linda for the opportunity of free candies and pickles or other confectionaries she so desired. It was a sore loss when Mr. Horace, as he was called, became too ill to operate the beloved tavern .
This was truly an End of an Era.
