Richard Merritt graduated from Terry Parker and went off to Auburn, the marching band and his beloved Auburn Tiger football team. He graduated from Auburn in December, 1980 with his BS in Forestry. He moved back to Jax and started working for CSX Railroad. He later received his MBA from UNF. He renewed an old friendship with Dana Sikes and they married in March of 1984. They had two sons Thomas born in 1986 and Timothy, born in 1988. They were transferred to New Orleans for five years, then came back to Jax. Richard loved playing golf and men's softball. He died suddenly and expectantly May 3, 1999. He is survived by Dana, Thomas, Timothy and his mother Pat Merritt.
He would be very, very proud of how well his sons have grown into Godly men. We have good memories that we will always cherish.
He would also be very proud that I've been able to keep the business/ministry that we started back in 1997, Merritt Speech & Learning, up and going.
Today, April 12th would have been Richard's birthday. He would have had so much fun catching up with all of his friends who were in the Band. Have fun..on April 13, 2012....I am thankful that he had wonderful memories of his days in the Terry Parker High Marching Band!!!
