Helen Louise Rogers Vandergriff

Helen Louise Rogers Vandergriff, 76, passed away on Friday July 7, 2023.  Helen was born October 16, 1946 in Jacksonville, Florida and was a member of the 1965 Graduating Class of Andrew Jackson High School, Jacksonville, Florida.  Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Bertha Mae (Holmes) Rogers, her sister Norma Joan Mathieson, and her husband Bob Vandergriff.  Helen is survived by her sister, Frances (Jimmy) Oglesby.  Helen was a lifelong resident of Jacksonville and a former member of Beta Sigma Phi where she made many lasting friendships.  As one of the first female clerks for the Duval County Tax Collector, Helen helped paved the way for a generation of women to enter roles previously unavailable.  She started that role in 1967 and continued that path when she transferred to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and served in Administration roles, retiring as a Supervisor in 2001.   Services for Helen have been entrusted to Evergreen Cemetery and Funeral Home 4535 Main St N Jacksonville, FL 32206.  A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 4th at 10:30 am at the Chapel at Evergreen Cemetery.  The family will gather at 10:00 a.m. at the chapel to receive friends.  Inurnment at Evergreen Cemetery immediately following the service.
