Sandra Lee Thomas

Sandi L. Thomas, “Gigi”, 66, of Jacksonville passed away Thursday, June 26, 2014 with her family by her side at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville following an extended illness. She was a native and lifelong resident of Jacksonville.

Sandi was raised in the Mormon faith. Her uncle was a Mormon Bishop and would take her to temple on her many visits to see him. She loved to go to the movies and in later years would tell her children how as a child she could go to the movie house with a quarter and watch the movie, have a soda, a candy bar and popcorn, all with that quarter.

Sandi graduated from Andrew Jackson Senior High School in Jacksonville in 1965. Almost daily, after school, she would go to Milligan’s Hamburger Restaurant on the way home for an after school snack. That is where she met Jimmie Earl Carver, who was a manager there. She married him in 1965 just months prior to her graduation. They had two sons, Thomas and Timothy. Sandi and Jimmie separated in 1975; however, together they continued to raise their sons while in separate homes. In 1979 she married her second husband, Gary Brantley. In 2009 she married her third husband, Richard Thomas whom she had been dating for almost a decade and whom she loved very much.

She was a Lioness of the Jacksonville Arlington Lion’s Club and was an avid Florida Gators and Jacksonville Jaguars fan. She enjoyed family gatherings and going to play Bingo when she could. She loved to cook for her family, especially meatloaf or chicken and dumplings and Mississippi Mud Pie. Her favorite TV personality was Lucille Ball and she loved the I Love Lucy show so much she could tell you what was going to happen anytime an episode would air on TV just by seeing the name of the episode.

Sandi loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren (who called her Gigi), and she enjoyed spending as much time with them as she could. Her favorite pastime was being on the computer, especially playing games and being on Facebook. She was very proud of both of her sons’ accomplishments and always supported their decisions with little to no “mama fuss”.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Evelyn Lee; her first husband, Jimmie Earl Carver; her second husband, William Gary Brantley; and an infant brother.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Thomas of Jacksonville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Jerry Carver of Jacksonville and Timothy L. Carver, Sr. and Tammy Graham of Callahan; three grandchildren, Timothy “Lane” Carver, Jr. and his mother, Bobbi Hendrix of Callahan, Johnny Graham and his wife, Brandy of Jacksonville and Amanda Graham and her fiancé Mark Partridge of Callahan; five great-grandchildren, Hailey, Madyson, Urijah, Julianna, and Alithia; a life-long friend who she considered her sister, Joann Allala of Middleburg; a very close cousin, Marti Wright of Alabama; her two precious Chihuahuas, Lucy and Monster; and a host of extended family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at The Church of God, 9906 Old Kings Road North, Jacksonville, Florida 32219 with Rev. Tom Carver officiating. To honor and celebrate her life a Video Tribute will be shown.

Messages of sympathy may be expressed in her online guestbook at www.themastersfuneralhomes.com.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be sent in her memory to Masters Funeral Home, 3015 Crill Avenue, Palatka, Florida 32177.

Masters Funeral Home of Palatka is in charge of the arrangements.
