In Memory

Elliott M. Yancey

Elliott "Butch" Morgan Yancey Jr.

30 JUNE, 1947 – 3 JANUARY, 2021

Elliott “Butch” Morgan Yancey passed away Sunday, January 3, 2021, at 2:10am. He was 73 years old. His ‘home going’ was anticipated and he could hardly wait to be in the presence of his heavenly Father and Jesus his Savior. He was surrounded by his loving family - his wife, daughter, son, daughter-n-law and niece - when he took his last breath. Butch was born on June 30, 1947, in Jacksonville, Florida, to Elliott Morgan Yancey, Sr. and Iva Lucretia Harper Yancey (both deceased).

As a young man of 19, Butch was honored by the City of Jacksonville as the first Jacksonville native to return home from the Vietnam War. (He had served his country as a Marine and was severely injured, losing his legs as a result of a land mine.) After his recovery, Butch became a Civil Service employee, working as a Postal employee for most of his career. After 45 years of servicing the community of Jacksonville and his fellow co-workers at the Post Office, Butch retired as a Mailing Requirement Specialist.

Aside from his parents, Butch is preceded in death by two sisters Peggy and Christine, his brother Leroy, two nephews Jay and Kenny and his niece Linda.

Butch is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patsy, his daughter Janice, his son William (Bill) and his daughter-n-law Tricia. *Patsy feels blessed beyond words to have been his wife, as does Janice and Bill feel honored to have been his children.

Butch was also Granddad to Jillian Wright, Riley Yancey, Forrest and Alex Stevenson and Great Granddad to Sophia Wright.

Butch is also survived by his sisters Jackie Strickland, Frances Kelly (husband Pat) and Yvonne Norman; six nieces - Brenda, Peggy, Patti, Tammy, Dawn and Jami; and eleven nephews - Butch, Jerry, Gene, Michael, Randy, Marty, Toby, Larry, Allen, David and Glen.

Butch loved and treasured ALL his family and friends everywhere. One friend by the name of Mike expressed with his words a summation of a man we called Husband, Daddy, Granddaddy, Brother, Uncle and Friend: “Could anyone who knew him not be grateful and inspired? Not by circumstances; just by the man.”

The memory of the righteous is a blessing. Proverbs 10:7 NSRV

A Celebration of Butch's Life will be held at 12:00 Noon, on Saturday, January 30th in the Chapel of Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin, with a visitation an hour prior to services.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please donate to Samaritan’s Purse by visiting www.samaritanspurse.org.
