Richard Hugh McInnis, a native of DeLeon Springs, FL went home to be with the Lord, February 15, 2014. He was predeceased in death by son, Richard Corey McInnis. Richard is survived by his daughter, Allison McInnis-Gimbert, his son Nolan McInnis and fiance’ Melanie Brush, his grandchildren Tyler Gimbert, Hunter Gimbert & Blakeley Coull, as well as his beloved ex-wife, Vickie McInnis.
Richard was a Korean War veteran, serving honorably with the U.S. Navy and played baseball for the Pacific Cen Pac fleet. He attended Stetson University in DeLand, FL. Upon graduation, he taught Jr. & Sr. high school in Jacksonville, FL for 10 years – where he earned The Teacher of the Year award.
He moved to Gulfport, FL in 1966 and attended Stetson College of Law, earning his Doctorate of Juris Prudence. Richard was appointed as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Middle District of Florida for three years and then went into private practice for 30 years before retiring.
Richard had many highlights in his life and career. His United States Supreme Court cases changed national & international law. He was a highly respected attorney at law in the legal community, as well as an accomplished writer, songwriter and poet.
His life reflected his devotion to the Lord in all that he did. He was an incredible father & an inspirational teacher to so many. Richard was deeply loved and respected by all who knew him.
Richard’s Celebration of Life and Homegoing service will be held at Faith Outreach Center, 7607 Sheldon Rd., Tampa, FL on Friday, February 21, 2014, with visitation between 6:00-7:00 p.m., and service immediately following. On Saturday, February 22, 2014, a second service will be held at First Baptist Church of DeLeon Springs, 4995 Central Ave., DeLeon Springs, FL, with visitation between 11:00-Noon, service immediately following & then laid to rest at Pinehurst Cemetery.
