Daren Dillinger

DILLINGER Daren Lee Dillinger, age 65, suddenly passed away June 7, 2011. Born in Norfolk, VA. 1946. Preceded in death by his father Lloyd Dillinger, he is survived by his mother Norma Trent Chappell, his son, Daren E. Dillinger, daughter, Annelisa Starling, and son, Christopher Dillinger. Five grandchildren, Sarah, Sren, Simone, Caleb, and Cody, his brother, William Chappell, sisters, Jean Carroll, Nancy Josey, Holly Schneider, and Audrey Stenta. Daren proudly served his country in the Army National Guard, was voted Class President of Maury High School in Norfolk, VA in 1965. He had a passion for Chess his whole life, he had many articles published, Jacksonville City Chess Champion in 1973, wrote the weekly local chess column for over six years for the Florida Times Union, served as one of several editors for the Federal Chess Association 1973-1974, served as FCA Vice-President and Assistant Editor 1975-1976, Pasadena Chess Club secretary 2003, Chess Journalist of America Vice President 2003-2007, and was the current President of the Jacksonville Chess Club. Daren thoroughly enjoyed teaching young children chess in many school districts with his last pupil being his grandson Sren. The family is having an Memorial service that is open to all friends and family to celebrate his life. It will be held at St. Justin Martyr Orthodox Church located on 12460 Old St. Augustine Rd. on September 26th at 6:30 pm. Nancy Zatarain (Walton)

After 7th-10th grades at Kirby Smith and Jackson, Daren transferred to finish his last 2 years at Maury High School in Norfolk, VA.
