anyone know our reunion format? Posted Monday, February 22, 2010 12:58 PM Just wondering about our Sept 25 Reunion: What format will it take? Who is deciding? Is that subject to a rank-and-file vote, democratically held. We grew up in the era of Chicago Mayor Dick Daley and his smokefilled backroom type deals. We New Wave liberals hope that is laid to rest. Let's all partake in sharing our recommendations to that only a handful are saddled with the planning burden. I welcome your opinions on how to best accomplish the finished product. Your alum buddy, Barry-Lee Coyne '59 Former Folio Contributor

RE: anyone know our reunion format? Posted Monday, February 22, 2010 11:42 PM We are always open to suggestions, comments, etc., however if Stan and I waited for every opinion on venue, format, etc. maybe we might have a reunion after we are all gone and just memories. Sometimes you just have to get the ball rolling and and make the play, and hope you don't make too many errors. We only have a few months left before the reunion date is upon us. As a matter of fact, it might be our last reunion! I hope not. As it stands right now the reunion will be at the Mariott in Melville, LI, NY - which by the way, is only about 10 minutes from Leonards's of Great Neck where we had our 25th Reunion! We have had several complaints that the Mariott is too far from Jamaica High School for those that come from long and far to see the old school. While our school is closing as Jamaica High, it will remain as is on the outside since it was declared a Landmark last year. To Stan and I, and most others I have spoken with, this reunion is about reuniting with old friends that haven't seen each other in almost a lifetime. This web site was an attempt to do the very same thing, and it gives Stan and I a great deal of satisfaction when we get emails from fellow grads about how thankful they are to have a way to find, contact, and communicate with old friends. If you wish to see the school itself it's only a half hour drive from Melville. Reunions Unlimited was picked by US because the owner of the Company is a Jamaica High Grad herself, class of '64 I believe. She promised us that this reunion will be a great success and she is personally taking charge to make it that way. Shortly, we will post on this web site much more detail about what to expect as we approach the big day. You also will receive more written communication from Reunions Unlimited. Again, Stan and I definately appreciate any suggestions fellow grads might have for the reunion. If we decide to use any of your suggestions we will post it on this site, but we can't personally answer each suggestion. We are looking forward to seeing all of you soon! Best regards, Larry Schnitt (60) Stan Shapiro (59) |
