Jena Hollander, RIP, dear soul...

Looking back at my not-yet-decrepit Class of '59 Folio yearbook, I came across the photo of Jena Hollander and her clearly written message in that exquisite handwriting.  There she is atop pg. 14 wearing her signature fur coat with her crop of golden blond hair.

In my humble opinion, far more classy than Marilyn Monroe although Jena never aspired to go Hollywood.  She was a less flashy star in her own extraordinary way.

She was a warm and caring soul, always spreading sunshine to those classmates whose lives she touched.  Jena was also intelligent although never trapped by any arrogance.  I'm told she tragically died in a car accident, the circumstances of which I know little.

Next to her photo in that "Tardy Students" picture, Jena wrote:

"They say better late than never but I don't think detentions are worth keeping any adage in style.  Best of luck.  I'll be looking for you in the newspapers!  Sincerely, Jena."

Little did our late friend know that I would become a professional journalist and one day be online.  I shall forever cherish and honor her kindness, etched within my heart and mind.

In memoriam,
