Remembering Teachers and staff Posted Thursday, May 7, 2009 02:59 PM I have memories of my teachers at JHS. I was one of those 4 year students. The only teachrs from my first year was Miss Butler my homeroom teacher. A no nonesense type and my memories of her are generally good. I remmeber Louis Schucker. He was great and JHS flourish under his administration. On the other hand Dr Howard Horowitz his AP was probably the most despicable human being I ever met.

RE: Remembering Teachers and staff Posted Thursday, April 1, 2010 09:59 PM I agree with your posting. Had Miss Butler for Chemistry. One of my favorite teachers was Mr. Stern in history. My homeroom teacher for 3 years was Mr. Rubin, he was a gym teacher. We never had a permenant homeroom, we were in the gym, auditorium etc. |

RE: Remembering Teachers and staff Posted Thursday, May 6, 2010 09:06 PM I remeber Mr. Stern, too. He had a malformed arm but he was a terrific History teacher. I loved his classes - I can still see him now. |

RE: Remembering Teachers and staff Posted Sunday, May 23, 2010 10:23 PM i was strongly influenced by many wonderful teachers at Jamaica...from Mr Woodhouse...who taught geometery with an Irish Brougue,,,to Mr Rose and most, by Mr. Gilllary, the Biology Department Chair...
About 15 years ago, I was visiting down in Florida, and looked him up...visited him and thanked him so much for all that he had done for myself and for so many others |

RE: Remembering Teachers and staff Posted Friday, July 9, 2010 05:54 PM I remember my favorite- Mr. George Baron- Was Boys Dean for years before we all got there and stayed on into the 70's at least. Totally Classy guy- Unfortunately I was in there so much he became good friends with my Dad. One time at the end of winter break I came in and asked if there were any new rules that had been made up and he threw me out but not before he had me go into his bathroom (only cold water) and shave off the mustache and beard I had started over the break. NO SOAP either. No one remembers, I am sure, that during the graduation ceremony, someone in the choir slipped out and had tied some fishing line to the clapper in the bell tower. It was I! I learned early how to pick locks! Mr. Baron caught me in front pulling on the line and laughed forever. After he retired he continued keeping involved with kids by coaching Lacross on the Island. He died this year but not before making deep great impressions on many many young people. We stayed friends up to his death. |
