Posted on Facebook, the Fresh Meadows group, by Wendy Haber Treidel. "I don't know if anyone of you remember a dentist Dr. Gary Haber who practiced in the building near the old Bloomingdales and which use to be the old bowling alley. He was my brother and unfortunately passed away May 13th. Gary of course grew up with me in Fresh Meadows ( our parents were pioneers and moved in I believe 1949? when Gary was 6 and my sister Susan was 3. I was born many years later . Gary went to PS 26, Ryan and Jamaica High School. Some point after dental school he went into practice in Fresh Meadows with my uncle Dr. Stanley Starasoler and Gary practiced until he retired and moved to Florida about 10 years ago. I know he played little league and all three of us Haber kids loved living in Fresh Meadows. i will always have fond memories of Fresh Meadows being a great neighborhood to grow up in and later proud that Gary continued to be part of the community for his career."

Howard Perlstein (1960)

Gary and I (and Jeff Huber, Mel xxx, and Glenn Anderson) were "charter members" of the Fresh Meadows group that included Angela Spiros (Glenn's wife), Leslie Katz, and Vicki Bergofin (my wife who passed away in 2003 from Ovarian Cancer).  We went to the same schools and were on the same teams.  We lost contact when I moved to Northen Virginia in 1968 and stayed.  I did not know Gary had retired and mvoed to  Florida.  He had a great sense of humor and infectous laugh.  Sorry to learn about his passing.  My current wife, Linda, and I toured the old neighborhood when we came up for the Jamaice 50th reunion.  I hasn't changed.  I've lived in Reston since 1971.  It was the first completely planned new town, not unlike Fresh Meadows with a mix of housing, walkable shopping, great schools, and lots of open space.  Gary will be missed.
