In Memory

Lesley Weissman (Cooper) - Class Of 1959

I am the adult daughter of Lesley Weissman (married name: Cooper), Class of 1959. Lesley passed away of Cancer in August of 2003 at the age of 61. She was a beautiful, talented artist (primarily watercolors) and teacher and a nurturing wife and mother. She lived in Providence, Rhode Island with her husband, Shawn Cooper, a psychologist, who still deeply grieves her loss. Lesley had two daughters, Jessica Cooper Foltin, MD, a pediatrician in NYC, and Liza Cooper-Yaroslavsky (myself), a Director/social worker at the March of Dimes. Lesley loved her art, her family, being a grandmother and the talents of the young, beloved public school elementary students she taught in RI. Her garden overflowed with flowers, particularly sunflowers that towered over the family in their yellow beauty. As a teenager I would wear my mother's Jamaica High School jacket and t-shirts, which she always saved. Another friend from her class, Mara Gold, died about a year or so later, also of Cancer. Her mother and my grandmother had remained friends. Lesley's mother Shirley Weissman resides in Boca Raton and is 91. I would be very touched to hear from classmates who new and remember my mother.
