Ater a long, long battle, Ricki succumbed to Alzheimer's Disease. This illness is an insatiable monster, and it took, along with her memory, her ability to do be. It took her body and her soul but, amazingly, left her with the ability to sing. I think this gave her remaining spirit peace - I do hope so. The last time we were together, I asked her if there was anything I could do for her. She sang to me - "Give my regards to Broadway, remember me to Herald Square". I will, I said to myself. That was the last day we were together. I left and I wept.
