The last time I saw Bill was in the fall of 1996, at West Towne Mall in Madison. I wish I could say that our paths crossed literally, but I saw on the opposite side of the mall aisle. I was struck by the way Bill looked and carried himself. Gone was the silly boy, and in his place strolled a tall, handsome, perfectly postured man in a nice suit walking with a confident rhythmic gait. Remembering how Bill didn't receive much acceptance in high school, a part of me wanted to make a bee-line for him and pay him a compliment. However, I passed up this opportunity to do so. Had I known he'd be deceased just a few short months later, especially under the heart-breaking circumstance he left us, I most certainly would have taken the time to say hi. Bill, my hope is you're at peace, playing your glorious trumpet in the presence of our Lord Almighty.
