Billy,
Hey, I've been there, Buddy. September 26, 1996, I had a heart attack. Spent that very stormy night in a stiff recliner trying to catch my breath. Shortness of breath was about my only symptom. Next morning, my wife insisted that I go to the Dr before I went to work. To keep her nagging down & because even I knew something was not right, I visited the Doc. An EKG later, he wanted to life flight me to Beaumont. The weather was too bad. They took me in an ambulance that afternoon through the storm.
An arteriogram showed significant blockage. On Monday, they performed the surgery - five by-passes. Pnumonia and fever kept me in the hospital longer than normal, but thanks to God, Doctors & Lenora, everything went well for me.
Two things! First, be sure to learn the proper breathing techniques with the "Breathing Buddy". Second, the worst part of the whole thing is having the ventilator tube down your throat. Necessary, but a nuisance & painfull at removal.
Design a way you can communicate with your family with the tube in after surgery. Yes/no questions by them and winks from you are pretty easy to pull off. Finger signals, etc.
I will be praying for you. I have full confidence that all will be better for you after surgery.
