Darlene kept close friendships with many classmates and loved reunions. Married to Ernest 58 years, she was also very dedicated to her family. She loved gardening & making home-made brew. Most of her life Darlene lived in the Siouxland area but loved California where they lived in later years. In 1992 Ernie (at age 72) built her their last home in Lucerne, Ca. Then in 1999 (1 year after his death) caregivers Corrine & Ben were able to bring her back to her Lucerne, Ca. home where she lived until her death in 2004. Since Darlene loved being around people they took her everywhere they went. Even when the mini-strokes made it imposible for her to walk or talk, people continued to be drawn to her by her winning smile and the glow in her eyes.
