I found Becky's obituary from The Joplin Globe on the Archives website.  I knew Becky from 1st grade and we went all through school together and grew up in the same neighborhood.  She was a sweetheart.

Rebecca Sue (Gates) Smith
The Joplin Globe - Joplin, MO

Rebecca Sue Smith Rebecca "Becky" Smith, 51, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006, at home, where her son, Jamey R. Smith, who together with his wife, Kristi, devotedly ministered Becky's care during her waning months Becky parted as she lived with great dignity and elegance. She is survived by Jamey, Kristi and Ava Smith, the granddaughter she adored, of Joplin, Mo.; her parents, Jack and Hazel Gates, Joplin; a sister, Cherrie Haerr, Joplin; and two brothers, Jodi Gates, Diamond, Mo., and Freddie Gates, Racine, Mo. Becky, a one of a kind person of care, made a wonderful addition to Eureka Springs, the community she dearly loved. Becky began as a wait person at Mud St. Café in 1999, where patrons quickly became enamored of her hospitable spirit. Her genuine care for others was characterized by dedicated service that began with a quick smile of engagement, followed by her authentic expression of interest in those who served and a sense of goodness that always left her clientele feeling good about their time here. Her enthusiasm for serving others was infectious and flowed over to her style of building friendships with customers and fellow employees alike. In 2003, the chamber of commerce named Becky "Waitress of the Year" in honor of her endless contributions to the quality of life in those she touched. Those who knew Becky love her as much as she loved serving and creating an endless array of friends in Eureka Springs. A memorial service will be held at the Gospel Lighthouse, 2800 South High Street, Neosho, Mo., 64850, on Monday, Oct. 9, at 10:30 a.m. Sister Myrna Marble, officiating. Donations gratefully accepted. Online condolences may be sent to www.clarkfuneralhomes.com Arrangements under the direction of Clark Funeral Home, Neosho.
