DAMMINGA, MR. GEORGE H. (Husband of Audrey K.) North Muskegon Mr. George H. Damminga, age 83, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2013 in Muskegon. He was born in Muskegon on December 10, 1929 to Henry and Maria (Zettergren) Damminga. After graduating from high school, George joined the United States Navy. He was deployed to fight in the Korean war, where he served on the U.S.S. New Jersey for 3 years as a gunner and supervised one of the ship's supply stores. After returning from war, George attended and graduated from Western Michigan University with both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Business Administration. He had been employed by S.C. Johnson and Son as a National Sales Manager before his retirement. George was a member of the Grand Haven Eagles and a life-long member of the Muskegon Elks. He enjoyed playing tennis with his wife, Audrey, and won several medals at the World Senior Games. He was also an avid cribbage player, competing and winning tournaments into his seventies. On July 18, 1959, George married the former Audrey K. Neidlinger in Berrien Springs, MI and she survives him along with their children, Gregg M. (Deborah) Damminga and Kirsten K. (Douglas) Brames and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Roger Damminga. A CELEBRATION OF GEORGE'S LIFE will be announced later by The Lee Chapel 6291 S.
