John may have been a tough WMU/Lions tackle, but I remember him as a warm friendly and big gentle type of individual.   Research shows that John was drafted in the 4th round by the Detroit Lions at the tackle position, and he was the 48th overall pick in the 1962 draft.   He was also a draft pick selection of the old New York Titans franchise.   His rookie Topps #61 football card is listed on E-Bay for starting bid of $9, so that in itself is an honor to John.

John A. Lomakoski, 58 of 719 W. Munising Ave., died unexpectedly at his home Tuesday morning, February 16, 1999. He was born November 11, 1940 to Hank and Della (Robertoy) Lomakoski. John graduated from Romeo High School and then from Western Michigan University with a teaching degree. He played football in college and then as a tackle for the Detroit Lions in the early 60's. John taught in Grand Rapids and then worked for Proctor and Gamble for over 28 years as a salesman, retiring in February 1996. John participated in fund raising for Western Michigan Athlete Stadium where he will be remembered by honoring his football number there. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping and computer games.
