William "Bill" Martin

William "Bill" Martin of Marquette, (formerly of Oscoda and Zephyrhills, Fla.) passed away peacefully at his home on Dec. 21, 2020.

Bill was born Aug. 25, 1939 in Sturgis, Mich. and was raised in Bronson. He graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in Industrial Arts Education and later earned a Masters of Education and Education Specialist Degrees from Central Michigan University. He began his career in education as the metal shop teacher at the Oscoda High Schools in 1961. After six years he left teaching and purchased the Huron Hardware store, which he ran with his brother Bob for the next seven years. After selling the hardware store, he returned to the Oscoda Schools working as a teacher, principal, business manager, and superintendent. He retired in 2001 after 33 years with the school district.

Bill married Gloria Fowler on Dec. 30, 1961 in Bronson. Together they raised three children – Dan (Jodie), Debbie (David), and Mike (Krista). They have eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Bill is survived by his wife, children, and brother Robert. He was preceded in death by his parents Eunice and Clarence Martin, his sister Margret Rubley, and son-in-law David Eyler.

Per his wishes, he has been cremated and no funeral services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Oscoda Educational Opportunity Foundation in Bill's name.
