I met the woman who became my wife (Yvonne) September 3rd 1988 at the Hurricane Deck in Westport. We were married June 8th 1991 and our only child (Quinn) was born November 29th 1996. Yvonne attended KU's law school and received a MBA from KU in 1988. She was instrumental in me getting my under grad in 1994 from UMKC. (Go Roos) My wife is highly intelligent and physically beautiful inside and out but in July 1995, Yvonne was diagnosed with having Multiple Sclerosis. MS can be an incidious disease affecting every aspect of your life, not only taking your mobility and independence but taking your cognitive thought process, leaving you frustrated and depressed.
My son Quinn is currently in 6th grade. He is a very bright kid and is participating in the Duke University Talent Identification program for kids who score well on standardized tests. He is in his second year of Boys Scout and earned his Arrow of Light, the highest award given in Cub Scouts. He has aspirations of attending Annapolis and a career in public service. He loves to debate politics, talk world affairs, music, sports, and video gaming. He is an all around great kid and the best thing I have ever been associated with in my life.
Currently, I'm a commercial insurance agent for Summit Insurance Group in Lee's Summit. SIG is a full service agency, we write for 56 different insurance carriers and can provide just about any coverage a business or individual would need. My book of business has been developed by writing commercial accounts but after I write the business I usually write the owners homes, cars and life coverage. I do write personal lines (homes, cars, life) for quite a few people but I really enjoy finding that small business that I can save them anywhere from a few thousand, to in some cases tens of thousands of dollars a year in insurance costs. My prior history includes spending 17 years at Sprint before being laid off in 2003. My Sprint experiences include sales, sales training, managing a quality process improvement, project management and technical consulting. After leaving Sprint, I owned and operated a Huntington Learning Center Franchise in Olathe, KS. Huntington is similar to Sylvan Learning Centers where we help student’s struggling with math and reading skills. I would have benefited from something like this when I was in school. I operated this business for three years before selling in 2007. Working half days (9 to 9) and going broke was not conducive for my home life or mental health. After moving on from Huntington I became director of operations for a start up company Get Smarter Prep. GSP is a test prep company helping students prepare for SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, LSTAT, MCAT and any college entrance exam but being a start up the emotional stress and hours did not fit with my home obligations. Although, if you have a student getting ready for one of these tests I highly recommend Get Smarter Prep to “Get The Score You Need For the School You Want”.
