We have the triva winners!

I'm making the declaration even though each winner answered only one part of the two part question. We'll just assume they knew the other part.

Winners: Beth Annis Collins and Danny Murphy. When you see them over the weekend, give them their due, their prize - their HUG!

Answer is: The Pink Poodle preceeded Charlie Hoopers, the long standing Brookside waterhole, and Mike Walsh ran it. One of Mike's sons, our classmate Pat Walsh, since 1978 has run Walsh's Corner Cocktails - frequent hangout of SW grads of all legal ages and the closest resemblance to the Cheers bar you'll ever find!

Gladys Sabates (Mabry)

Hello everyone,

I've been trying to get pictures posted as fast as I can. Check the "40th Reunion Photos" and you will see the 2 albums that I have so far. I don't have many this time and only a few from Sunday afternoon. Please send in your pictures and I can create an album for each of the events!

According to the statistic on this website, we have had 5,460 visits to the home page!! It only records individuals once in a 24 hour period (even if you log in 20 times that day) so it is quite possible that the number is much higher. We only need 52 more classmates to register to hit 50% participation. Encourage all your friends to join us to stay in touch or just to keep up with future plans. I've been working on eliminating names from the "Missing" list for which we have contact information and they are aware of this site. If you know anyone's contact information, please send them a direct invitation by entering their email address in the provided space on their profile page.

Thank you all again for helping to make the Reunion weekend a fun one. Send pictures!

Warm Regards to all,

Gladys

Am enjoying seeing the photos, too.  BTW, anyone who has photos can also create and post albums yourself on our class Facebook page without having to bother Gladys to do it on here.

Keep 'em coming, guys!

Excellent idea Barb, If anyone creates a facebook album, picasa public album or simply uploads photos to their FB, with your permission, I can create an album for you in the "40th Reunion Photos" gallery. I just posted one for Becky Colvin Wolpert. Check it out! I only have a few photos of my own from Sunday so would love to get more. Thanks!

Jim Wilkinson

Hi, everybody;

This is Jim Wilkinson, class of '70, and some of you will remember me, and some won't.  First of all, kudos to Beth, Gladys, and others I may be omitting for their dedication to this Southwest website.

I went to Charlie Clay's service last Monday, as did many of you....great to see people I truly cherish.  Charlie was a Border Star guy like me, and my long time buddy, Gary Burr.  As you know, when we got to Southwest in 8th grade, we were thrown together with Bingham J.H. students.........which worked out fine, but my point is, some of us Border Star Southwest folks go back to kindergarten and Ms. Karo.....not sure about spelling.

Charlie Clay was incredible.....I forgot he wore that body cast for two years.  Irrepessible spirit.

I got to see Gladys, Marie, Peggy, Gary, Platt,.....and a local business owner named Pat Walsh......and a real gentleman...named Chuck Champion...to name a few.....what a treat for me to see people i have known and respected so much.

I guess what I'm saying is....what Gladys told us a few days ago is true.......we need to cherish each other....we really did have a special high school.

God Bless....Jim Wilkinson

July 30,2014

Beth and All,

Greetings! Hope all is well with you and yours - and looking forward to our next reunion!!

Until then, the class of '69 has finally (been wanting this to happen for many years) invited classes of '68 and '70 to any or all of their reunion activities, weekend of Sept. 12 - this year! It's promising to be a blast swapping memories with upperclassmen, biasly said, the 3 best classes SWHS had.

The info. log-in takes a few steps. You have to sign up as a "Guest Member". Go to: http://www.southwest1969.com/class_index.cfmhttp://www.southwest1969.com/class_index.cfm  See, on home page, invite in **paragraph (I think 3rd para. for top)

1. Go to "Members: Log-In" (top right box on home page). Click "JOIN HERE".

2. You're on "Classmates Profile" page. Go to bottom of page, click "contact us".

3. You'll be at a short form to fill out. Put in "Message " box something like: "Wish to be a Guest Member. When can I be added?"

4. Once added as Guest Member, log-In and go to "Register: Our 45th Reunion". There you can get all the info. and sign up what gathering you're interested in going to.

I plan to attend all - particularly the Sunday (11:30a - ?) Loose Park picnic where I'm hoping to see as many '68, '69 and '70 classmates as possible; along with teachers and each classmates' family members. PS - Free; BYO (Bring Your Own whatever to eat and drink)

Anytime between now and then, and when you see or hear from a classmate or a '68 or '69 upperclassmen, pls. share this fun opportunity.

Thanks much Beth for getting the word out!!!

Elliott Harris

Hi all:  This is my 1st time to post anything here.  I just wanted to say that I had a great time at the picnic at

Loose Park.  I enjoyed a great visit with Mark Dann(Thanks again for the bread, Mark).  It was Chris Mahley

that I spoke with first that day, and I just wanted to state for the record,(and I hope I speak for all 1970 alumni)

Chris, it was a very great thing when you graduated with our class.

Thanks for listening

Elliott Harris smiley1970

Steve Kase

I have had a very enjoyable experience working with Fran (McCarty) Ferguson on a business alliance opportunity. She and I corresponded through linked-in and we found she had a client whose experience was in the same market space as my company, electrical power generation. She has worked with our company to coordinate the two sides; and, she has done so with tremendous competence and aplomb. She is  such a bright and wise counselor.

It is so funny, all these years later, to remember the boys and girls swimming teams (remember SW Girls' team which lead the way before Title 9?!!); and, to be sitting at a meeting table collaborating. Two different lives connected by Southwest High School.

She mentioned Stephanie Heller, and Mandy Davis; I mentioned I had seen Debby Knoll at the last reunion, though she was not slated attend, and my jaw dropped when she said hello, and then she was gone. Of course, Davis Kirk, and Holy Tim were referenced.

Just could not resist updating.(Also, my son Wiles got married in September, wonderful girl, ceremony.)

Regards, Steve

James "Jay" Bland

I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I have had a good year with my son getting married to a very nice girl. She did graduate from LSU. I told her I wouldn't hold this against her. I hope to return to KC this Spring or Summer. Need to see my old freinds Platt and Pat. Once again I hope everyone enjoys the Holidays. Todays temp in Charleston is around 65. I do not miss the snow and cold.

Jane Woodson (Hunt)

Hi all.... it's good to catch up and see who we've found. Elliott Harris-nice to hear from you. Clearly, I haven't been on here in a while. I work at American Century Investments and speak with clients all over the country (world!) and quite often will find someone from Kansas City who went to Southwest before or after we did, whose family member did or who attened Southeast or Paseo. All have fond memories of those days.

I have one grandson, Shaun, who is nine years old. My daughter, his mom, has had some  health issues so I am adopting Shaun. He's a delightful, funny, smart, pain in the....  !! But I'm grateful I'm able to take him in. It certainly is odd to say I'm becoming a mom again at 62... sigh...

Has anyone found Pam Oldberg or Idelle Levine? Idelle went to Border Star. They're just a couple of folks I've wondered about, as well as Sheila Solomon who, I understand, is married and lives in Israel now. Love to know how to contact any of them.

I wish you all joyful holidays and a very prosperous and peaceful new year!  Janie Woodson

Karin Lichterman

Happy New Year, one and all!

Any rumblings yet about our next reunion?  (I hesitate to mention which one this will be.)  The night of September 13 is the beginning of Rosh Hashanah, which might impact travelers who want to get home before the holiday.

Let's get the conversation (and party!) started.

Cathy Goodfriend (Novak)

I am very excited about the 45th Reunion in October. Hard to believe it has been that long since I have really seen anyone. Circumstances kept me from coming in the past so I am glad you guys in KC are getting it together. Although I am in Chicago, if there is anything I can help with long distance, please let me know. Of course I am hoping plans include some good old KC BBQ which I try to come back for at least once a year to get my fix. Of course Topsy's, Winsteads, and any more of the old favorites wouldn't be bad either(of course a GREAT WATERING HOLE)!!!!! Hope to see lots of old friends there!!!! Hi Debbie!

If there's to be a reunion I'm interested!  Please provide a date as soon as you know.  I have a wedding in October and hope they don't clash.  Hello to all my high school friends.  Will enjoy visiting with all who can attend.
