Janet Scott (Spicer)

Janet Kay (Scott) Spicer, age 75, died on January 4, 2023 at 10:05 pm at the Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care Center.

Janet was born in 1947 in Kansas City, Missouri to William Edward and Barbara Nadine Scott. Janet was a lifetime resident of K.C., graduating Southwest High School in 1965, and attending Southwest Missouri State University and UMKC where she studied art. She worked at Hallmark Cards for 31 years. She held positions as Catalog Designer, Greeting Card Artist and Graphic Designer before retiring in 2002.

Her years at Hallmark brought her friendships that endured for the rest of her life, giving her love and support through difficult times and enriching many good times. Since her retirement, she enjoyed pursuing her hobbies of cooking, photography, fishing and traveling, with National Parks being a priority destination.

Janet experienced two heartbreaking ten year marriages, first to Philip M. May and second to Charles A. Smith, before reconnecting with her friend of 20 years, Randel R. Spicer. They began their joyful marriage in April of 1994. She was blessed to love and be loved by Randy's two sons, Scott and his wife Lisa, and Steven and his wife Leanna and their two children Liam and Mila. The grandchildren brought special joy and love to her life.

Janet contracted Ovarian Cancer in 2018, went through treatment, and had a reoccurrence that required more treatment since 2019. It was the support of her husband Randy and her family and friends that gave her the strength to survive and fight her battle with cancer.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents. She has two surviving brothers, William Robert Scott of Kansas City and James Edward and Pettie Scott of Lake Lotawanna.

Cremation will be performed by the Mount Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home. The Spicer family has elected to have a Celebration of Life Service and burial to be performed in the spring at the funeral home. Randy and family will prepare a separate notification of the date and time of the service.

The family request donations to Cancer preventive organizations.
