On Tuesday December 8, 2020, Sandra Jones, loving spouse and mother of three, passed away at the age of 73, from complications related to congestive heart failure.

Sandy was born on February 25th, 1947 in Kansas City, MO to Ira and Patricia Ward.  Sandy graduated from Baker University with an education degree.  At Baker Sandy met and married Robert Jones.  Early in her career, Sandy taught elementary school as a full time teacher, and later as a substitute and ultimately retired to raise their three children, Christopher, Erin and Sara.

Mom’s world revolved around her children and grandchildren.  She was a vocal cheerleader, not afraid to let the officials know if they made a poor call, or to urge us on in a possibly not so lady-like manor.   She was always our biggest fan, no matter what the endeavor.  She loved teaching the kids and grandkids to cook and bake, especially her famous hot dog pizza and Christmas cookies.  The grandkids loved to hear her read them stories. Mom looked forward to and enjoyed conversations with her sisters and other family.  She kept a tri-weekly standing appointment with her friend Carol, under the guise of a haircut, but really it was just an excuse to visit and gossip.   She loved her bunco gals who had been together for so many years.   She was a lifelong crafter and an excellent seamstress.  In her quiet time Sandy was a voracious reader of historical fiction, (think Fabio).  In her later years she rekindled her love of Western movies and television programs.

While having conversations both with Mom and about Mom, four major themes stand out most. 1.  She was a fierce Mama Bear!   Her children and grandchildren were always her priority.   2. She had a refreshing candor.  She had "some" opinions and people knew it.   3.  For those of us fortunate enough to find a place in her heart, it was the widest, deepest and safest space you could ever imagine.  4. There are very few who were tougher.  As a nearly 25 year Breast Cancer survivor, her body took beating after beating , but Mom got up every single time.  She fought an unbelievable fight.  Finally, her heart, where we were all held so tightly, decided it was time to concede.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Patricia Ward and her daughter Erin Reed.  She is survived by her husband, Robert Jones, her son Christopher, her daughter Sara and her grandchildren, Kate Jones, Owen Jones, Sophie Reed, Jack Reed, Jones Bauman and Joe Bauman as well as her sisters Carole Sue Beck, Patty Chambers and her brother Mike Ward.  The immediate family will be holding a private service on Saturday December 12, 2020.  A celebration of Sandy’s life will be scheduled later in 2021.
