I don't see any information about his death, just that he is added to "In Memory".  He was a wonderful man, had a marina on Lake Clinton in Lawrence.  He loved sailing, he loved his high school fraternity.  He was a very smart guy, and very humble.  He will be missed.  If anyone has any information please post it.

I went to elementary school with Mark at St Peters. I grew up with him.

When trying to locate him for a St Peters reunion I learned from his mother that he had suffered a severe stroke. He fought hard to overcome it but eventually he passed away. That was many years ago probably our 40th grade school reunion which would be about 14 years ago. Mark was one of a kind. He is missed   MJC

I originally posted Mark's death.  He was my best friend thru High School, college and life.  He had a great sense of humor and we had many laughs together and with all our friends.  Mark was a leader who was not pretentious and had some great ethics.   Best to him and his family.    Tom Wehrle

Mark probably saved my life.

It was my first day at Southwest. Sophmore year -- Fall of '62, I guess. I was a new kid, and I didn't know anybody.

I was in a gym class that was outside on the track. I was just trying to keep a low profile and avoid causing any contact with the other guys until I got to know them.

At some point, I was walking across the field, and some guy ran toward me yelling, "Hey duck, DUCK!!"

So I ducked, and as I did, I felt something skim over the top of my head. Turns out, a guy on the track field was throwing a discus, lost control of it, and it was shooting directly at the back of my head.

It was Mark who was running toward me yelling "DUCK!" and prevented me from getting hit it the back of my head with that large metal discus.

Also, thanks to Mark's warning, the guy who pitched the discus didn't get in trouble for killing me.

So Mark became my first friend at Southwest, and remained a good friend until we all escaped...

I have many other good stories about our years at Southwest. Anyone who has an interest, though I suspect there are few who do, can get to me here: franklang9@gmail.com.
