Obituary

Linda Diane Kerkman, 75, passed away on January 12, 2021 in her home surrounded by her loved ones from her short fight with brain cancer.

Linda was born on June 4, 1945 to Vernon and Nola Bingham in Brigham City, Utah.  She lived most her childhood in Brigham City and Layton, Utah.  Linda graduated from Davis High School in 1963 and attended LDS Business College receiving certification in bookkeeping and accounting.

Linda met the love of her life James “Jim” Kerkman while working in the parts department for Allis Chalmers.  They happily married on May 10, 1974 and were later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple with their three older children on July 22, 1978.  Their jobs took them to Pocatello, ID and then to Dublin, CA where they welcomed their fourth child, and then back home to Layton, UT welcoming two more children.

Linda was employed with Mervyn’s for 20 years as their HR Manager and retired in 2008.  Linda was the joy and light everywhere she went.  She enjoyed making conversation with everyone she met and loved to tease and crack jokes.  Her hobbies consisted of reading, crocheting, canning, baking pies, family gatherings, and her grandchildren.  Her family was everything to her, and was utterly happy with the life she shared with her Jimmy.

She is survived by her husband James W. “Jim” Kerkman, son Harold D. Kerkman (Susann), Roy, UT; daughters, Valerie L. Burgett (Bill), North Salt Lake, UT; Carla D. Cochrane (Brandon), Tooele, UT; Jamie L. Longfellow (Casey), Billings, MT; Kristie A. Bennington (Clay), Clearfield, UT; Patricia E. Pettit (Jason), Clinton, UT; brother Richard Bingham (Jean) and sister Marsha Yurth (Larry), eighteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

We want to take the time to thank the wonderful doctors, nurses, and medical staff at McKay-Dee Hospital, and ultimately the amazing hospice nurses at Envision, Mary, Amber, and Whitney. You are truly wonderful and we are eternally grateful.
