Jack Cavanaugh

Jack F. Cavanaugh, 74 years, of Fremont, NE died Sunday, June 7, 2015 at Dunklau Gardens in Fremont. Jack was born July 19, 1940 in Kearney, NE to John and Eileen(Ryan)Cavanaugh. He grew up in Kearney and was a 1958 graduate of Kearney High School. He then served in the U.S. Navy from Jan. 30, 1958 to July 18, 1961. After his discharge, he moved back to Kearney and then moved to Omaha for a short time, before returning to Kearney. Jack married Sally Reimers on May 4, 1963 in Omaha. The couple moved to Fremont in 1967. Jack was employed at Valmont Industries in Valley, NE for 37 years, retiring in 2004.

Jack was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont; the V.F.W. Post at North Platte and the Fraternal Order of Eagles at Kearney. He was a die hard Husker fan and was proud of his Irish heritage.

He is survived by his wife, Sally; sons, Dan and wife, Darcy Cavanaugh of Claremore, OK and Jerry Cavanaugh of Syracuse, NE; daughter, Jackie and husband, LaMonte Bovill of Fremont; brother, Jerry Cavanaugh of Kearney; sister, Mary Ann and husband, Roger Ahrens of Kearney; 7 grandchildren; 2 step granddaughters; 1 great granddaughter and 1 step great granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Jeanne Vasquez.

Funeral Mass, 10 AM, Friday, June 12th at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont, NE. Father Benjamin Boyd and Father Tom Ryan will officiate. Visitation on Thursday from 5 PM to 8 PM with the family receiving friends from 5 PM to 7 PM at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation on Friday at church 1 hour prior to service. Burial at Calvary Cemetery in Fremont with military honors conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of V.F.W. Post #854 and American Legion Post #20. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society and to St. Patrick's Elementary School Fund.
