The Billings twins  were identical to me and I could not tell them apart. Kind of full of the devil too !

Gary and his twin brother, Jerry, were my best friends from before kindergarten all the way through highschool and beyond.  God, I miss him!!  He always had good things to say about everybody.

My years of growing up at 522 West 22nd Street, included years of meeting Gary and Jerry Billings who lived on the south side of that block, on 21st Street.  For years during our grade school days/ junior high school.......we would somehow meet on a vacant dirt lot between our  two homes and play softball on that vacant area behind the Billings home.  In addition, I remember that they taught me to play some game of marbles.  In the bare dirt in an area behind their house,  they would hollow out some small holes in a traingulur area for "pots".  Each of us has a little bag of marbles, and we would all try to get our marbles into these little dug-out holes to score points.

That was the kind of life we lived in the 1940s and 1950s.  After school we would just roam around and do what we were inclined to do it seems.  We didn't get on the phone and arrange anything.  We just showed up somehow.  I never entered their home, and they never entered mine, as I remember.  I never met his parents.  And he never met mine.

That was our life at the time.  Parents never worried or wondered where we were it seems.
