Hello Fellow Classmates,
I am on vacation with the family this week in NC and finally have the time to update my profile.
First, I have been truly blessed since graduating from KHS.
I graduated from NC State with a degree in Electrical Engineering and later graduated from Duke's Fuqua School of Business with an MBA degree.
I worked for IBM Corp for about 10 yrs and decided to leave when I got the opportunity to move out to Los Angeles.
I was a VP, Operations at Public Storage Corp. for about 3 yrs. It was my one get rich quick opportunity as we were going to spin off a small company that they had bought and couldn't figure out how to make any money with it. They decided not to spin it off and I left to move back to the east coast. Annette didn't care much for Los Angeles. Good place to visit but not raise a family - her words not mine. Decided that since I didn't want to be single; I should head back east.
From there, I eventually became President of a group of companies that made miniature motors for surgical and dental hand tools, wearable insulin pumps and missiles for Danaher Corporation. We move to Salem Va. where we lived for five years.
Unfortunately, I wasn't home very much. The companies that I ran were in Switzerland, Germany, France, India, Singapore, Japan, and India. I had one small company in West Chester, Pa. but didn't spend a lot of time there. I traveled about 500K miles a year for 5 years. I visited over 50 countries on just about every continent.
As you can imagine, this got old after five years. At least to the wife. So, we decided to move to Indianapolis where I had the opportunity to become a Division President for Belden Corp. in June 2007. I became an Executive Vice President in December and am doing my best to represent K-town well.
In Feb. 2009, I was named 1 of the Top 100 Most Powerful African Americans in Corporate America by Black Enterprise Magazine. Can you believe it?
I wish my mother and father were alive to see it.
During all of this, I have been blessed to have a very understanding wife who almost single-handedly raised 3 kids for 6 years.
Aaron is 16, Olivia is 10 and Samantha is 4. Yes, all 6 years apart.
We are all very active in church and the kids are active in band, gymnastics, karate, and soccer.
I hate that I didn't get a chance to make the reunion; I was looking forward to it. I even sent my money thinking that I would be there. I do plan on making it for the next. I look forward to seeing everyone.
