Laura Brown

After graduation I moved to Utah and while in college met an island boy from Saipan (a small island in the Pacific near Guam). After marriage, we moved to Saipan in 1984 and I have basically been here ever since. I started teaching in a local elementary school in 1984 and have worked my way up the system. In 2000, I moved into the special education program and worked with kids with special needs. In 2003, I was asked to moved into an administrative position. I now get to travel and see places I never dreampt this southern girl from LHS would ever go. In the past 10 years, I have gone though a divorce but life is good and appears to only be getting better. I've been to many islands here in the Pacific (Palau --you all remember 'Survivor'; Pohnpei; Truk; Guam; Hawaii; and Molikei) In 2002, through my then work with Prison Fellowship International, I went to Japan, England, and Switzerland. In my current job I attend meetings, conferences, and trainings all across the US. This is very nice because I'm able to stop by LaFayette quite often to see family and friends. When I'm in town, I always meet up with Jan ,who works at the police station, to get updates on people we graduated with.
I don't know if I'll be able to attend the class reunion but I will try to.

At the moment I can't recall anything that stands out in my memory about high school. I only know that I didn't feel that I really fit in. I was in the bandthough and I enjoyed the concerts we presented and being a part of the marching band. I was able to attend all the football games because of this. There a few teachers that stand out and from whom I imitated when I went into the field of education.
