James H. Garrett, age 64, of Spring Grove, passed away at his home on Thursday, September 22, 2022, with his loving family at his side. Jim was born on Wednesday, August 13, 1958, in DeFuniak Springs, FL to James R. and Viola (Bonson) Garrett. He was a graduate of Lake Forest High School in 1976. On June 30th, 1979, he married his best friend, JoAnn Fox.
Jim was a longtime resident of Spring Grove, and it is there, along with JoAnn the pair built their forever home. Jim’s advanced workmanship in woodworking posed the skills he needed to perform any task related to carpentry both at home and during his career. Some of these tasks include most of his home furnishings as well as an elaborate dining room table that holds many wonderful memories of family and friend gatherings throughout the years. Jim was a master carpenter during his career, retiring in 2018 at the age of 60. In his leisure time, he enjoyed biking, camping and hiking both local and afar. His most recent trip was to Colorado where he spent much of his time hiking during his visit. In his younger days, he could be found motocross racing. He had a strong ambition and looked forward to revisiting the motocross racing sport with his grandchildren. His family was his greatest pleasure and brought him an abundance of joy and happiness in his home life. He was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, and friend. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him forever and he will be missed beyond measure.
Survived by his loving wife, JoAnn; daughter, Christine (Josh) Derouin, sons, J.R. (Jamee Howard) Garrett, Thomas (Tamara Sims) Garrett; grandchildren, Logan, Charlie, Jameson, Arlo, Ruby, Ivy.
