Thomas Quain, 65, most recently of Libertyville (and previously of Vernon Hills, Lake Forest and Deerfield) passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Tom was the son of the late Gerry and Jack Quain; brother of late infant William, the late Jack Jr., Joe (Patty), Chris Kaefer (Greg) Jim (Kristen); uncle of Allison (Jason), Michelle (Zach), Megan, Katie, Bill and Brittany (Joe); great-uncle to Grace, Natalie, Avery and Sloan.
Tom graduated from St. Norbert School in Northbrook, Lake Forest High School and Spring Hill College. He spent many happy years as a clerk on the floor and back office of the Chicago Board of Trade. In later years, he held an administrative position at Great Lakes Representatives, Inc. before retiring in 2020. Post retirement he particularly enjoyed his winters in Vero Beach, Florida.
Tom was affectionately known as AG (America’s Guest) due to the many invitations he received from family and friends to join them for travel, dining, sporting events, parties… all of which he photographed and shared on social media.
Tom will be remembered as a truly kind, gentle person who inspired us with his positive attitude in the face of his devastating ALS diagnosis. Many, many people feel fortunate to have known him.
Visitation will be from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 19 at Wenban Funeral Home, 320 Vine Avenue, Lake Forest. Funeral mass will be at 9:30 a.m. at the Church of St. Mary, 175 E. Illinois Road, Lake Forest. Internment will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to ALS Association at ALS.org in memory of Tom.
