In 1987 I began working at the Lakewood YM/YWCA on and off both as payed employee and volunteer over the next several years. I also worked at Stauffers Tower City Plaza Hotel from 1988-1991 in housekeeping and catering. I attended CCC West working on my B.A. in psychology. I also volunteered for a battered women's shelter in Cleveland while i was still attending Tri C. In 1995 I moved to Mt. Vernon, Ohio to get out of the big city environment. I lived there until 1998 and then moved to Hagerstown, Maryland to study personal ministries, then moved to Lewiston, Maine to get married where I am now homeschooling our 2 girls. I also do a volunteer radio program at Bates College where I've been D.J.ing for 11 years. I play Christian music as well as talk about various health topics. For a time when our girls were smaller I was also on the board at the Toy Library, which was an indoor play space for children to offer a positive social environment for the children and their families. Since it went under new ownership I resigned due to differences with the church where it was relocated. I also volunteered at a single mom's support center in downtown Lewiston for about 2 years called Hope House, which encourages young, pregnant women to either keep their babies or give them up for adoption. Many babies have been saved because of this ministry. They have also assisted in home births for low income families who couldn't afford it otherwise.I recorded a C.D. with my family this past summer singing Christian music. Our girls did a song by themselves and we all had different favorites that were shared in the C.D. I've been told by different people throughout the years that I should write a book. I haven't done that as of yet, but lately I have been considering it. Other than that, not much has been going on.
I can't say I can recall anything funny while I was there. I can remember one of my positive experiences being my math, religion and English teacher. They had a healthy sense of humor and weren't so straight and serious. They were pleasant and didn't make you feel belittled. They genuinely seemed to enjoy being our teachers. It's been many years so I can't remember all their names, but I'm sure they remember who they are.
