A loving husband, father, grandfather and friend was born November 14, 1935, in Eagle Pass, TX; died September 28, 2008, at the age of 72.
Rudy was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He operated Art's Refinery Station in Lansing before working for General Motors, from which he retired in August 2001. He was very well known for his love of classic cars. Rudy owned the first full custom car, a 1954 Ford, as well as having built and raced a 1955 Chevy Sedan Delivery known as "Big Daddy." He was a lifelong fan of Michigan State University and was thrilled to see each of his daughters graduate as Spartans. Rudy often said that the happiest days of his life were when he got married and when his daughters and grandchildren were born.
Surviving are his wife, Christina; daughters, Lisa (Wesley) Groot, Diane (Paul) Rand and Kimberly (Darryl) Newman; grandchildren, Elena, Trevor and Mason Rand and Benjamin Newman; brothers and sisters, Arnulfo (Betty) Rodriguez, Jo (Julian) Villarreal, Paula (Rene) Cardona, Olga (Armando) Garibay, Lupe (Jacobo) Sanchez, Irma (Rafael) Sandoval, Guillermo (Julie) Martinez and Vickie Rodriguez; also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, October 2, at 12:30 p.m. at St. Gerard Catholic Church, 4437 W. Willow Highway, Lansing, Michigan, with the Rev. John P. Klein officiating. The Rite of Committal will be held in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Lansing. The family will receive friends at the Gorsline-Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, on Wednesday, October 1, from 2-4:00 and 6-8:00 p.m. with a Remembrance Service at 6:30 p.m.
