Martha Jane (Briggs) Dee

Martha Jane (Briggs) Dee Lansing Martha Jane (Briggs) Dee, Lansing, age 71, died at Sparrow Hospital on January 1, 2011, after a long struggle with kidney failure. Martha was born to Bernard and Thena (Rugh) Briggs on June 12, 1939, in Lansing, MI, where she spent her childhood, graduating from Eastern High School in 1957. She retired from the State of Michigan as a Legal Secretary in 2002, and had also volunteered her time and energy to various organizations since 1993, including Association for the Bingham Community (ABC), Caring Active Residents (CARS), Eastside Neighborhood Organization (ENO), Allen Neighborhood Center (ANC), Baker Donora Center Shake and Bake Seniors, City of Lansing Traffic Board, Independent Order of Foresters (IOF), and Michigan Association of Governmental Employees (MAGE). In 2000, Martha was nominated by ABC for Lansing's Bea Christie Award. Martha loved traveling and doing all sorts of crafts including cross-stitch, needlepoint and knitting. Martha was preceded in death by her brother, James Bertrand Briggs, and her son, Douglas Leonard Dee. Martha is survived by her daughter, Deborah Dee (Randy) King; her grandsons, Donald Leonard (Abby) Dee and John Randolph King, II; and great-grandsons, Justin Aaron and Joseph Arnold Drumheller. A memorial service will he held on Saturday, January 8, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at Pilgrim Congregational Church UCC, with family receiving friends at 1:00 p.m. Internment will take place when the weather turns warm.
