ANDY VERPLANCK,
 
72, a long time resident of Lapeer, died Tuesday, June 21, 2011. Andy was born on June 12, 1939, in Lansing, son to Bert and Ethel (Pierce) VerPlanck.
 
He graduated from Eastern Lansing High School, class of 1957. After graduation, Andy became a Michigan State Trooper and served the on State Police Department for 32 years. Upon retirement, Andy went back to work as the Dryden Chief of Police, a position he held for 11 years, retiring in 2004.
 
Andy attended First Presbyterian Church in Lapeer, he was member of
the Lapeer Elks and a former member of the Lapeer Lions Club.
Andy is survived by his loving wife, Gail VerPlanck of Lapeer; his children, Andrea VerPlanck of Cheboygan, Gregg (Rhonda) VerPlanck of Cincinnati, Cari VerPlanck of Iron Wood, MI, Doug (Jamie) VerPlanck of Lapeer; step-children, David (Tammy) Lagness of Hendersonville, TN, Jeff (Karen) Lagness of Maynardville, TN, Barbara (Mike) Marston of Goodrich, Deanna (John) Mitchell of Lapeer, Beverly Lagness of Lapeer; 16 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and 2 brothers, Jack (Mary Lou) VerPlanck of Lake City and Harry (Vickie) VerPlanck of Atlanta, GA. Andy is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
 
Andy was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jim VerPlanck; and his sister, Betty Landers.
 
Memorial contributions in memory of Andy can be made to the Karmanos-Crittenton Cancer Center, 1901 Star Batt Drive, Rochester Hills, MI 48309.

Funeral services will be held 11:00am Friday, June 24, 2011, at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. Pastor Todd D. Smith officiating. Burial in Green Corners Cemetery, Hadley.

 
The family may receive friends 1-4pm and 6-8pm Thursday, June 23, 2011. An Elk’s memorial service will be held 7:00pm Thursday evening at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer.
