Timothy D. Culver, age 60, longtime resident of Eaton Rapids, died Saturday, December 4, 1999, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Elk Rapids. He was born September 5, 1939 in Lansing, the son of Wayne J. and Gladys (Cooke) Culver. He had served as an educator for the past 30 years, as a teacher, athletic coach, principal and assistant superintendent. Although he was most recently employed by Concord Academy Antrim Charter School, in Mancelona, he had worked in the Eaton Rapids Public School system for 27 years. Prior to his employment at Concord Academy, he served as Director of Island City Academy in Eaton Rapids. Mr. Culver was an avid golfer, but also enjoyed tennis and boating. He loved the Northern Michigan outdoors and was a loyal Spartan Fan. He was a prolific reader and brought his enjoyment of good books to the classroom. Mr. Culver was also active in the Eaton Rapids Kiwanis Club. Mr. Culver was born in Lansing and lived on Cavanaugh road where he attended Forrest Road School. He attended Pattengill Junior High School and graduated from Eastern High School in 1957. He received both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education from Michigan State University. While attending school, he worked at WJIM-TV (now WLNS).
Surviving are his wife, Margaret M. (Myers); two children, Barbara Jane (Robert) Nulf of Climax and Sandra Kaye Culver of Chicago; four brothers, Jim (Suzanne) Culver of Vero Beach, FL, Tom Culver of Lansing, Bud (Wava) Culver of Lansing and Ted (Rosalyn) Culver of Ann Arbor; two grandchildren, Sydney Ray Nulf and Henry Robert Nulf; as well as many nieces ad nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and died with his brother, Dennis Joe Culver.
Memorial services were held Wednesday, December 8, 2 p.m. at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. East Chapel, 1730 E. Grand River Avenue, East Lansing. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grass River Natural Area, PO Box 231, Bellaire, MI 49615.
