Jean Sexsmith (Scott)

Jean died 05/25/10 in Alpine, Utah.  She was born in Reno and grew up in Minden and Las Vegas.  She graduated from BYU.  She married Sam Taylor in 1959 and settled in Van Nuys, CA.  In 1969 Jean’s beloved husband was killed in a car accident.  She earned her master’s degree in 1976, moved her family to Highland, UT and taught English at American Fork High School for 8 years.  She then worked at BYU for 14 years, during which she earned her Ph.D. and became the first coordinator of the Women’s Services and Resources office.  She married David Scott in 1995 and retired from BYU in 1999 after 14 years as an Administrator.  Jean was also a foster care volunteer and chairperson of the Child Abuse Council.  Her greatest accomplishment was being able to serve a Humanitarian Mission for the LDS Church.  She served with her husband at the Albert Schweitzer Hospital in Haiti and multiple missions in Nepal and Mexico.  Her most interesting trip was visiting an animal refuge in Nepal, and riding and washing an elephant in the river and getting wetter than the elephant!  Her son Tim and his wife adopted a 6 year old girl from Nepal.  She was one of the toddlers in Jean’s Toddler School in Nepal.  She had four sons and 14 grandchildren.  Jean liked to go camping and boating, and spent her leisure time reading, crocheting and doing crossword puzzles.
