Rennie Young

John Renton "Rennie" Young passed away in September, 1997 in Ensenada, Mexico at the age of 60.  He was a fifty year resident of Las Vegas. He was born in Ogden, Utah in 1936.  His father Jack was a co-founder of Young Electric Sign Co. in Las Vegas.

He founded John Renton Young Lighting and Sign Co. in 1965 and sold it to Mikohn Gaming, Inc. in 1994.  Before retiring, he was President of the subsidiary renamed Mikohn Lighting and Sign.

Rennie designed outdoor illumination for the MGM Grand, Excalibur, Caesar’s Palace, Stardust, Las Vegas Hilton, Flamingo Hilton, Sahara, and Donald Trump’s Atlantic City casinos.

The International Engineering Illumination Society recognized him with the Paul Waturbury Award of Excellence in 1992 for the Stardust, and in 1994 for the Excalibur. 

Rennie was a supporter of the Boy’s Club and Big Brothers of Las Vegas.
