Douglas A. Ahrendsen

Douglas A. Ahrendsen, 62, lost his fight with cancer at home in Orofino, Idaho, Wednesday, June 15, 2016.

Doug was born Oct. 16, 1953, the son of Melvin and Marion (Miller) Ahrendsen. He grew up on a farm northwest of Merrill, and graduated from Le Mars Community Schools in 1971. He then attended the University of Northern Iowa.

On Nov. 20, 1986, Doug and Theresa Hood were united in marriage in Sioux City. They made their home first in Sioux City,then Rio Rancho New Mexico, finally in Orofino, Idaho.

Doug owned an upholstery business, and excelled in the restoration of antique vehicles. He also worked for Happy Family Log Homes.

Doug was a hockey fan and avid outdoorsman, with a love of animals. He was consistently very active in community volunteer work.

Doug is survived by his wife, Theresa; siblings, Gordon Ahrendsen of Omaha, Nebraska, Bruce (Sharon) Ahrendsen of Cypress, Texas, Sheila Ahrendsen of Le Mars, Greg Ahrendsen of Merrill, Susan Ahrendsen of Le Mars, Sandra (Jarrod) Vanderloo of rural Le Mars, and Steve Ahrendsen of rural Merrill; a sister-in-law, Pam Bombei of Sioux City; a brother-in-law, Jim (Susan) Hood of Boulder, Colorado, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, Keith.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 22 at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Orofino, Idaho.
