2017 Bill Lindauer Hisey Hikes
June: Late Wildflower Hike – Hisey Park

June: Wheat Harvest at Hisey Park
(I need at least 10 Participants for this event. See below to register)
Meeting Location: Hisey Park – Parking Lot, 5443 Middletown Rd., Waynesville, OH
Date &Time: Saturday, June, 24, 12:30-3:30 PM
Info: Weather permitting we will be using tools from early farming days to cut and harvest our
wheat field, then tie the wheat in bundles, and then a wheat shock. We will also use a flail to
separate the chaff from the wheat grains, and winnow it to remove chaff. There will be a display
of scythes, hand drills, and other tools used in olden days, as well as a 1951 SC Case Tractor
and a John Deere 2-bottom plow, and disc used for working ground in the late 40’s and 50’s. We
are encouraging both spectators and participants. If you are interested in being a participant,
contact Bill Lindauer prior to June 21. We need at least 10 participants to do the event.
Youngsters are encouraged to participate in the ‘hands on’ activities including collecting the cut
wheat and helping to tie it into bundles and create shocks.

July: Native American and Pioneer Uses of Nature – Hisey Park
Meeting Location: Hisey Park - Parking Lot, 5443 Middletown Rd., Waynesville, OH
Date &Time: Saturday, July 8, 9:30-11:30 AM
Info: Bring Insect Repellent. We will take a hike around Hisey Park, looking at plants used
during earlier times and how they were used. Along the way we will encounter tools used in
earlier times. We’ll use hands on skills to try them out. We will learn about such plants as
soapwort, teasel, rhubarb, and elderberry, and tools like the corn sheller, corn grinder,
froe, and draw knife
