Your astronomy background
I've loved astronomy since childhood. I had a small refractor and learned how to "dial in" with a primitive equatorial mount with a star chart to find my targets. I really wanted to take pictures of the planets I could find, and see nebulas, but the technology wasn't ready or affordable for a kid. Fast forward several decades and I've gotten deep into astrophotography. The goal for me has always been the science. Every subject I manage to photograph I research deeply to understand what I'm looking at. I get still get excited every time a new subjects first exposure fills my computer screen. To me, astronomy is mostly science, exploration, and just enough art to make it truly a life long hobby. I have a 9.25 SCT and a 73mm doublet that give me all the coverage I need at the moment. But like most of us, I'm always on the look out for the next "shiny".
