Click on the SMILEY FACE at the top of the window and you can choose a smiley thingie.

AT the upper left hand of the window, click on the little DOWN arrow. That will open your Tool Bar and expose the smiley thingy.

That is odd. The window you type your message in should have a pane at the top and on the left of that pane there is a DOWN arrow. Click on that to open the tool bar.
