I would like to share with you all something I just posted on my wall and two ministry pages on Facebook.

Howdy Everyone!! As many of you know this year has been tough on myself with so many people I've known in life have passed away. This one is very tough to talk about. Tomorrow I will be traveling with my friend John Lee to Aurelia, Iowa to a service for a high school friend who passed away, Bob Schulenberg.

I want to say first I ask you to pray for Bob's family and friends. Also please pray for the people traveling from Lincoln to Aurelia tomorrow morning. I know some of his old high school friends are going. This year is our 40th Reunion. Bob had planned on going. We messaged each other about it.

Bob & I met at Lincoln Northeast High School. We both loved to play basketball. But back in the Coach Ed Johnson days who didn't. We played lots of intermural & pick up games over the years of our young lives. .

Everyone knew Bob as Squatty because of his size. He played on the Northeast Class A State Championship Football Team. Bob & I went to many of the Rocket's basketball games together. Their was the Circle C trip where 33 high school seniors chartered a bus & went to North Platte to see a basketball game. We spent the night there at the Circle C Motel. Only the Circle C Boys understand. Boys will be boys!! The next night we headed to Grand Island to a game. Since the band wasn't there a bunch of us bought kazoos Then the team could hear "Hail To The Varsity" when they came out on the court. In the warm up at the State Tournament at the Husker Coliseum Squatty ran out on the court & shook a comb in a Kearney player's face. A couple of their players had shaved their heads. Back in those days the Beatle Hair Cut was the style in Northeast Lincoln. The basketball team went on to become Nebraska Class A State Champions.

Squatty and I also had another thing in common. We could sing. We both were in Choir & Madrigal/Mini-Choir our junior & senior years. Squatty & I plus 10 others were in the All State Honor Choir. We got an overnight trip in Kearney. The Madrigal/Mini Choir our junior year in Hastings was rated as the top Swing Choir in the State. That was probably the only State Championship that year!!

In high school we called Squatty's Mom, Lois the Northeast Substitute Teacher. We would all have to behave since it was Squatty's Mom. Harvey Squatty's Dad worked for Campbell's Nursery. Squatty talked to his Dad & helped me get a job there. I worked there for two years. I planted some big trees and made some pretty cool rock gardens with Harvey.

After High School we hung out some but Life goes on people go on to live thier lives. Last time I saw Squatty was at the 25th High School Reunion. I remember we wondered if anyone remembered our real names or just our nicknames. I was really looking forward to seeing him at the reunion. I want to say thank you for being such a good friend, husband & father. Also for your work for Social Services. After reading what a judge said you went to bat for some people in need. Thank you Bob "Squatty" Schulenberg for being a friend.

MAY GOD BLESS!!

Thanks For Listening,
Bob "Beak" Vance

I Want To Thank All For Their Kind Words, Prayers & Thoughts For Bob Schulenberg, His Family & Friends. The Service Was A Wonderful Tribute To Our Old High School Friend. After Attending His Service Yesterday I Learned How Bob Had Turned Into A Wonderful Christian & Family Man. His Family, Friends, Former Clients From Social Services And Community Loved Him Very Much. At The Lunch After The Service I Had The Opportunity To Talk To His Wife Julie, His Mom Lois, Brother Bill (Boney), His Sisters Nancy & Barb & Other Family Members. They Send All Their Thanks For The Prayers And Cares. At The End Of The Service They Played A Recording Of A Song Bob Had Sang At His Son's Wedding. It Was Wonderful To Hear That Beautiful Baritone Voice I Had An Opportunity To Sing With In High School. Bob Will Always Be In Our Hearts & Memories!! Thanks Bob "Squatty" Schulenberg For Being Part Of All Our Lives!!
