It's been too long & I don't remember them all -- but they were all great!
Elder Oliveira was my most excellent trainer from Brazil. I recall Elder Toone, lots of fun with Elder Manning, Elder Platt was a my great buddy but never a companion. Elder Hoglund served with Elder Platt, I think, but we had some great times as well. I also recall Elders Munson and Colton but I can't recall where we served. That's not likely complete .... I'll do some journal reading to see who I've missed.

Hmmmm.. I started in Almada. Then opened Vila Franca de Xira and spent neary 9 months there. I went to Porto for a short time, then to Setubal and back to Almada as a ZL. I recall a small area along the tracks towards Cascais but I can't remember the name.... Oh well. That's probably close enough.

I'm glad to see this site dedicated to those serving with President & Sister Hillam. I haven't been to a single reunion simply because work, babies and life just got in the way. Regardless of my attendance, I loved my mission, those great young men that I served with and most especially, I love the Hillams! May they always be blessed for their love and care of so many of us and for their love of the Portuguese people. My life is truly better today because of their loving sacrifices, instruction and guidance for me so long ago!

When we were opening Vila Franca de Xira, my companion (I think it was Elder Manning .... he liked to get me trouble ...) and I got some local fireworks on a holiday and participated with the rest of the town in setting them off. The authorities didn't know who we were but they certainly didn't think we had the right to 'party' with them so they arrested us and threw us in the local jail. After many hours of prentending not to speak the language (maybe not pretending so much!) and the constable trying to explain that we needed to pay a fine and spend some time in jail, they became bored with us and let us go. We laughed all the way home, thankful that it didn't get any more exciting than that!

I've been living in the Phoenix area since my I returned from Portugal in 1984. Married a year or so later to my best friend and we have now 6 children, the oldest is serving a mission in Hungary. I've traveled all over world as a consultant, even returning to Portugal a few years back. I enjoy mtn biking, trials & trail riding, flying radio controlled aircraft (helicopters are my favorite). I was educated as an aerospace engineeer and got a masters in industrial engineering. I spend my consulting life solving problems in large organizations and helping them to become better problem solvers themselves.

We have served actively in the Church always and the Gospel remains central to our lives. I attribute any success in my life first to my Savior and second to my good wife who stands by my side during the good and the bad.
