Living & Traveling in motor home since Sept 2011. Now a TX resident, officially, but aren't there but maybe once a year. Anyone want to go to Front Sight?
I guess some would call it being nosy, I'd prefer to call it intellectual curiosity, but I would love to read about what everyone has done during their lives.
In that spirit, and to get things going, I will tell about my life in case anyone is interested. Here goes....
Three years at Penn State..Made the Marching Blue Band for two years... Started in Engineering and switched to Recreation & Parks. Summers were spent as at Lititz Pool, & as a camp counselor.
Dropped out of PSU fall 69 and Uncle Sam called me right away for a physical.
But I got lucky and pulled a high number in the lottery...didn't have to serve.
Met my wife that Dec..got married the next Dec.1970..
Summer 70 I had the summer to remember: l week on the motorcycle to get to Indiana via VA & KY. 1 week in Indiana at a AYH leadership training course (on bicycle)...Shipped bike back to brother....2 weeks on motorcycle via TX, NM, CO, to WY.....5 weeks via backpack in Wind River Wilderness on Expedition Leadership Course with National Outdoor Leadership School....1 more week on motorcycle to get to PA.....4 weeks with Wilderness Travel Camp as Driver/Counselor in New England... Don't feel bad for my future wife, she spent 7 weeks that summer with two friends training around Europe with a backpack.
Fall 1971 I went back to PSU and graduated June 1973.
I had one job in my field, then couldn't find another.
Went to MTA truck driving school in E-Town.
Drove 2 years for Hamilton Equipment in Ephrata, then 13.5 years for F.W. Woolworth in Denver. Got million mile award.
Then I drove a Sr. bus for 7.5 years for HDC out of Lancaster.
I spent 3 years as a Licensed Public Adjuster Solicitor.
Then, with 2 friends from that we formed an Inspection Company, mainly doing simple inspections for banks and Insurance companies. I retired from this as the business was fading.
Along the way there were a variety of interim jobs, I never collected any unemployment..always seemed to find something.
We sold our home in 2000 and moved into the motorhome. Lived in it for 11 winters in PA while still working.
Wife retired in 2011, and Sept 2011 we began traveling. And we still are.
Best Contributions....my volunteer work. I was a Red Cross Disaster Action Team volunteer for over 10 years, most of that as a team captain & instructor.
Also, I was active in Middle Creek Search & Rescue Team for 15 years,,,, 1 as PIO, 4 as 1st Asst. Chief, and 5 as Chief.
Hope this didn't bore anyone, but if you got this far you must be as curious (or nosy) as I am.
OK, I got it started, how about everyone else sharing? Please..
Update: 2017 We bought a small house, with 3 RV hook-ups, as a place to park for the winter. It is NW of Phoenix near Congress. Needed someplace with enough power to run the AC's for the summer. We spent last summer in HOT AZ due to recovering from shoulder surgeries. House and 2 RV hook-ups are available for visitors....recommend the winter, as summer is hot, and we are not there. Back to traveling again this summer headed for WA. and ???
Great to see everyone at the 50th!
Update 2018: Traveling to CO this summer. Anyone there?
Update 2019: Motor home for sale, we lived in it long enough, moved into house.
Update 2021: Bored with staying home, we bought a small travel trailer so we could travel some more and get away from some of the heat here in the summer. Don't like motels. Spent 5 weeks in it last summer, went to WY and MT. So far we will be spending 6 weeks in WY this summer.
Update 2024: Itch to travel rose up again. Also to try to get away from some of the AZ summer heat. We bought another motor home. Still getting it ready for travel.
Update 2025: We are preparing Motor home for a bid trip this summer...Mostly to visit friends and relatives. We will travel to TX, AL, OH, PA, Ontario, WI, MN and CO, then home to AZ. Hope to see some of you in PA. Any lunches or picnics planned??
